Anantnag: Amid a complete shutdown and strict restrictions imposed by government forces, thousands of people on Wednesday attended funeral prayers for two local Jaish-e-Muhammad militants, here in Tral area of Pulwama district.
Adil Ahmad Lone of Midoora village and Danish Khaliq alias Amir of Pinglish village were killed, along with a Pakistani national Qasim, following a fierce gunfight with government forces in Hayuna village of Tral area on Tuesday.
While the body of the Pakistani militant was taken to north Kashmir for a quiet burial, bodies of the locals were handed over to the next of kin late Tuesday night.
People from far and wide started thronging Midoora (Adil’s village) and Pinglish (Danish’s village) soon after their bodies reached home.
Two to three militants came to Adil’s house in Midoora and offered a gun salute to him.
The number of mourners kept swelling since early morning in both the villages. This was despite the fact that government forces had sealed all routes leading to these villages and erected barricades along the roads.
Internet services had been barred in police district Awantipora soon after the encounter started in Hayuna and remained snapped on Wednesday as well.
As per local sources, three funeral prayers were held for Adil and two for Danish.
“The grounds where the funerals were held were decorated with dozens of Pakistani flags and the bodies of the militants were draped in flags of both Pakistan and JeM,” local sources told Kashmir Reader.
Locals told Kashmir Reader that militants appeared at the funeral of Adil as well and offered a gun salute.
The mourners dispersed peacefully after the militants were buried at their respective villages.
There were no reports of any clashes anywhere in Tral town till this report was being filed.
