Budgam: Residents of Beerwah Budgam district accused Roads and Building (R&B) department of using poor quality material in macadamization of roads.
Local’s claimed that only after few days of macadamization, it developed cracks and roads got damaged partially.
Citing example of macadamisation of Magam-Beerwah road, locals said that macadamization of road was started after a long period, ‘but it could not sustain even for days, which clearly states usage of poor quality material in construction.’
However officials said that if there are any complaints regarding damage to newly macadamized roads, department will look into it.
“Check the roads that were macadamized recently and you will see most of them have developed potholes and cracks,” locals of Warihama, Arwah, and Beerwah said.
Several roads that were macadamized for the past over a year have also started developing potholes due to usage of “sub-standard material”, they said.
Similarly road stretch from Khag tehsil headquarter to Poshker have totally damaged and in a state of apathy. “Despite bringing the issue in the notice of higher officials nothing has been done,” rued locals.
Locals also complain that the shabby roads makes problem more complex during rainfall when water gets accumulated in potholes.
They said government had received complaints that several roads have started developing potholes that were executed during the last year and many were worn-out within weeks but not to avail.
When contacted Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Beerwah Abdul Qayoom, he said that the macadamization is still going on.
“It was just a problem at one place where the macadam had disintegrated at the periphery not because of low standard material but because someone had walked over that portion,” he said.
“Our men are keeping close vigil on the process and there would be no compromise on the quality of the material,” he said.
