Anantnag: In two separate attacks before dawn on Tuesday, militants shot at and killed two policemen, and left a third battling for his life, outside the district court complex in Pulwama, while in Anantnag town ten paramilitary CRPF men were injured after a grenade was hurled at them.
The slain policemen have been identified as Ghulam Hassan Wagay of Rafiabad and Ghulam Rasool Lone of Kupwara, both residents of north Kashmir.
Their colleague Manzoor Ahmad is battling for his life in SMHS hospital, Srinagar.
As per police reports, the three policemen were fired at when they were inside their post guarding the court complex in Takiya Wagam area of main town Pulwama, at about 3:30 AM Tuesday morning.
“Militants opened indiscriminate fire on their post, killing two of them on the spot, while another was grievously injured,” a police spokesperson said.
Firing continued for several minutes following which government forces in huge numbers were rushed to the area to cordon it off and search for the militants, who by then had managed to escape.
There were also reports that the militants decamped with the rifles of the three policemen.
Pulwama SSP Chaudhary Muhammad Aslam said that police were yet to check the post for the service weapons.
“The boxes in which belongings of policemen were kept are locked and yet to be checked. A team will be shortly sent and facts will be ascertained,” Aslam said.
Later in the day a wreath-laying ceremony for the slain policemen was held at the District Police Lines in Pulwama.
In Anantnag town, a grenade attack was carried out by suspected militants at around the same time as the Pulwama attack.

“Stone-pelting had been going on in the area and the CRPF men out to tackle stone-pelters were attacked with a hand grenade,” Sharma said.
