CHARAR-I-SHARIEF: Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) Teachers’ Forum zone Nagam in central Kashmirs’ Budgam on Monday staged a protest demonstration here against the government for failing to fulfil their demands.
The government had earlier assured that the issues pertaining to SSA teachers will be addressed soon. The teachers were demanding streamlining of their salaries, implementation of transfer policy, regularization policy and release of pending salaries.
“Despite assurances by the education Minister’s, nothing has been done for our demands,” the protesting teachers said, adding that the government must fulfill their promises and must fulfill our demands at an earliest so that thousands of families could heave a sigh of relief on Eid.
“Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has clubbed various schemes including SSA, RMSA and others and has reduced the funds, affecting the salaries of SSA teachers. We demand the government to delink our salaries so that we will get salaries on time,” said Zonal President Nagam Irshad Siddiqi.
“Recently, the concerned Minister assured that the SSA teachers will get their salaries before Eid but unfortunately, government seems befooling us as our salaries continued to remain withheld, leaving thousands of SSA teachers to suffer ahead of Ramadhan,” he said. According to the protesters the government has released only the Salary of April and not of earlier three months; also the salaries were released according to 6th pay commission.
Extending their support to the state Union President Farooq Ahmad forum demanded justice for ReT teachers and appealed the government to fulfill their long pending demands at an earliest. They also blamed the Present Finance minister of “not being serious” and said that he is not “visionary” compared to the previous minister who on the assembly floor had promised them of meeting their demands. The protesters warned the government of protests on Eid at Lal Chowk if their demands are not met and said that they will continue their protest as issued by the State union leadership till justice is not delivered.
“If our demands are not fulfilled by Eid, we will lock institutions and we will not celebrate Eid but will occupy lal chowk on that day with our families,” Siddiqi said. “The government is forcing us to lockdown the schools and take to streets leaving poor children to suffer. If nation builders are kept in this situation what will become of the education system in the state”
Meanwhile, SSA teachers of different educational Zone,s of Gandarbal district under the banner of teacher’s forum staged massive protests at their respective zonal headquarters to press their demand of releasing their pending wages and delinking their salaries
Carrying play cards and banners the protesting teachers including male and female assembled in the lawns of Dak bungalow Kangan and in front of ZEO Hariganwan where they were joined by civil society member’s, trader’s, senior citizens and local leaders of teachers forum and members of different employee organisations in solidarity.
Chanting slogans for Govt,s alleged failure in fulfilling the implementation of 7th pay commission in their favour, they marched through Kangan market and concluded at ZEO office Kangan and ZEO office Hariganwan.
‘The protesting teacher’s were demanding delinking of SSA salary from MHRD to the state budget and extension of 7th pay benefits to the SSA teachers .
“We are demanding the implementation of the commitment made by the Ex-finance minister Haseeb A Drabu on the floor of house that the sate will absorb its SSA teachers into state budget Ayaz Abdullah president RET teachers forum Kangan said.
