Bandipora: Reinforcements including paratroopers were rushed to Panar forests in Bandipora district on Monday where a group of militants is believed to be hiding. Heavy exchange of gunfire was reported early on Monday after brief exchanges of gunfire on Saturday and Sunday.
Sources said that army units including special commandos and paratroopers were called in from other northern districts to help search the dense forests in search of militants.
Sources said that a group of more than a dozen militants who recently infiltrated from Gurez is trying to move towards central and southern areas of the Valley to assist their operatives already active there.
Army sources said that the group has probably succeeded in fleeing the area, but two militants who attacked the army patrol on Saturday evening are still trapped in the forests and one of the militants has been injured. Reports also said that two army men were injured on Monday in the exchange of gunfire.
The vast area remains cordoned off to prevent the militants’ escape.
