To reach out to as many students as possible with the message of Quran, the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba J&K (IJTJ&K), a students’ organisation of Jammu and Kashmir, has started a month-long campaign “Towards Understanding Quran” in the month of Ramadhan, which is also the month of Quran.
What is the message of Quran?
Allah says: “O, mankind! There has come to you a good advice (i.e. Qur’an) from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts and for those who believe, a Guidance and a Mercy. Say: “in the Bounty of God and in His Mercy (i.e. Islam and Qur’an), – in that let them rejoice” that is better than the (wealth), they amass.” (11: 57-58)
IJT’s program is to convey the message of Islam to students, to encourage them to acquire its knowledge, and to awaken them to the task of fulfilling its requirements in the practical life. The mission of IJT is to seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT) by ordering human life in accordance with the teachings laid down by Allah in Qur’an and his Messenger Muhammad (May peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Under this mission, IJT has started this campaign, which aims to spread the message of Qur’an, the biggest gift from our Lord to humanity and also the most crucial requirement to be successful. The Quran not lays down the path that leads humanity towards success but also delineates the course that ends up in eternal disaster.
This fact necessitates that every single human being must be not only familiar with the Qur’an but also be able to understand its message. Many Muslims may not be familiar with the true meaning of the Quran as we are more preoccupied to finish rather than understanding the meaning as well as the universal messages and shared values found in the Quran.
Many of the root problems Muslims face could be traced back to a poor understanding of Islam and its teachings. Some recite the Quran but don’t understand; others understand but don’t practice the true teachings. We must recite, understand and practice what the Quran says.
To understand the purpose and real message of the Qur’an, here are some points to be assumed.
GOOD ADVICE: Te Qur’an is a good advice for mankind from its Lord. It enjoins all that is good and forbids all that is evil. It warns in advance about the disastrous consequences of treading the path of wrongdoings and evil deeds. At the same time, it also illuminates the path that leads up to glory in this world and in the hereafter. Verily, We showed him (man) the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful (76:3). The Qur’an provides the best possible code of conduct for mankind to live a peaceful and prosperous life and warns of catastrophe that looms large in case it’s just teachings and injunctions are ignored. It is the good advice from the Lord of the universe for individual as well as collective welfare of man. The Holy book is a good advice for entire mankind comprising believers as well as those who don’t believe.
HEALER: The Qur’an is the best healer of diseases that plague hearts and minds. For all the diseases that contaminate human heart such as ignorance, doubt, hypocrisy, infidelity and confusions, the Qur’an is the panacea. The holy book also addresses the queries of man regarding this universe, his position in this universe and his relation with his Lord. Qur’an provides rational answers to questions related to the creation of this universe and its logical conclusion. Qur’an provides ideology as well as the way of life. It satisfies man’s quest for supernatural longings and offers the most pragmatic way of living and thinking.
GUIDANCE: Qur›an is the ultimate guide to mankind viz a viz the eternal success. The path shown by it is most reliable and straight. Verily, this Qur’an guides to that which is most just and right and gives glad tidings to the believers (17: 9). The Qur’an guides what is lawful and what is forbidden and provides a true guidance and will of Lord before mankind.
MERCY: The Qur›an, like Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is a Mercy unto mankind. Adopting the teachings and instructions of the holy
The Qur’an unbound countless benefits and bounties for mankind. It seeks to establish a just and an honest system in this world, leading to peaceful and prosperous life for all. The Holy Book also guarantees eternal bliss for its believers in the hereafter.
Following the teachings of the Qur’an can make this world an ideal heaven where there is no oppression, no injustice, no poverty, no hunger, no illiteracy, no discrimination and no deprivation of any sort and any kind. The Qur’an proposes a welfare state based on a monotheist society where compassion and cooperation are order of the day. It shows the way that guarantees success in the life after death.
One’s relationship with the Quran should be ongoing throughout our lifetime. So, this campaign is commendable for reminding us to read and understand the Quran.
Through this campaign, IJT asks the students to come forward to understand and spread the message of the Qur’an. It is the primary duty of every Muslim, even if to have the knowledge of only a single verse.
