To observe Eid as ‘black day’

Budgam: Daily regular workers of Public Health Engineering (PHE) sub division Charar-i-Sharief in district Budgam on Saturday held a protest here demanding immediate release of their wages before Eid.
The protest was held under the banner of P.H.E Daily Wagers Union Sub Division. The union alleged that they have not received wages since January this year. Angry employees locked the sub division office bringing official work to a halt.
“We are not getting paid from a long time and government is not fulfilling our genuine demand,” one of the protestor said. “Despite being paid very low, authorities are not bothered to release that little amount.”
Protestors raised slogans against the department and demanded immediate release of their salaries before Eid, and warned department to face the consequences if their demands are not met.
The union termed it “ironical” that the department is not releasing their salaries on the occasion of Eid and called it total ignorance of the department in addressing their genuine demands.
Meanwhile Arshid Ahmad Wani president of the union talking to Kashmir Reader said, “Department should release our salaries before Eid so that we can also celebrate this festival happily and can meet needs of our families.”
Protestors said that they are attending their duties, but department is now examining their patience and prompting them to take extreme steps.
The workers blamed government for the hardship they are facing due to financial constraints. “We will continue our strike and work will remain suspended till our salaries are not released,” Arshid told Kashmir Reader.
Union also informed that they will lock down the sub division office as a mark of protest against the government and will observe Eid as “black day”.
