Bandipora: Army and militants exchanged gunfire in the upper reaches of Panar area of Bandipora District late Saturday.
Sources told Kashmir Reader thatan army patrol of 14RR was attacked by militants in upper Panar, to which army retaliated. No loss of life was reported till the time of filing this report.
Official sources said the firing has stopped and more forces have been rushed to the spot.
The officials were of the view that militants most probably had managed to escape. Sources said that army had detained some Bakerwal shepherds for questioning.
Official sources say that military movement in the upper reaches of Bandipora forests and adjoining forests has increased in the past few days.
On Friday evening, a few gunshots were heard near Chitternar area of the Panar forest range.
On Thursday, the army claimed that it busted a militant hideout in nearby Bounzari, Chandaji forests and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions.
