SHOPIAN: Suspected militants on Thursday afternoon opened fire on a cash van of the J&K Bank near Chitragam-Kalan village in Shopian district.
Sources said that the cash-carrying vehicle was travelling on the road when it was attacked by the suspected militants.
No loss of life or injury was reported in the firing incident. Local sources said that a joint team of government forces had launched a search operation to nab the attackers.
Later in the day, police claimed to have foiled an attempt to loot a J&K Bank cash van in Chidipora village. “Suspected militants opened fire upon the cash van at Chidipora area of Zainapora and tried to loot the money. The alert security guards foiled their attempt and the robbers fled from the spot,” a police official said.
