Boycott upcoming elections: Geelani

SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday appealed people to boycott upcoming elections, saying it provides Indian leadership opportunity to mislead the world community.
In a statement, Geelani said New Delhi is not sincere and plays with the sentiments of the people of Kashmir.
Geelani condemned the killing of two youth at Tanghdar by forces who he blamed for staging fake encounters.
Addressing mourners attending funerals of the slain youth over phone, Geelani said, “Whatever is happening now – the killings, injuries, and arrests – is because of the unnatural alliance of Muslim Kashmir with India. This is despite the fact that six lakh Muslims were butchered by Hindu fascist forces in Jammu, and despite all odds, the nation is resisting illegal occupation and pursuing the right to self-determination.”
He said Indian rulers are suffering from arrogance of power and are denying the basic right to people.
Stressing for unity, Hurriyat chairman said, “We should encourage people for their commitment, and we need to avoid differences and remain firm. Islam, freedom and unity in our folds can lead us to our destiny and if the entire nation follows these goals, we will definitely achieve our destination very soon.”
He also condemned the slapping of 4th PSA on Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori and shifting him to Kot Bhalwal jail, Jammu, termed it the “worst demonstration of political vendetta”.
Meanwhile, Geelani and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai have expressed grief over the demise of party activist Arshad Ahmad Punjabi.
In a statement, both leaders paid tributes to Arshad Ahmad for his commitment and exemplary character and contribution, and expressed condolence with the bereaved family.
