Baramulla: Residents of Ganapora village of Qaziabad in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district held a protest against the shortage of drinking water on Tuesday morning.
Protestors including women and men raised slogans against the PHE department and blocked the Baramulla Handwara road for some time.
They said the government at other places is taking pride in reviewing the availability of essentials on daily basis in the holy month of Ramadhan but in Ganapora village of Langate constituency in Kupwara district people don’t have even a drop to quench their thirst at Iftaar time and accused PHE employees of ignoring their plight..
Locals said that for the last more than two weeks the water pipes run dry as the main water line is blocked somewhere but the local PHE employees don’t turn up to clear the blockade in the main pipe. The residents alleged that in the holy month of Ramadhan they have not even a single drop of water to quench their thirst at the Iftaar time and not to speak of availability of water for ablution at prayer times.
“We approach the concerned quarters many times, but they continue to turn a deaf ear to the growing public outcry.” they said.
