SRINAGAR: A deputation called on Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani at his residence on Tuesday and briefed him about the latest developments and grim situation the people in south Kashmir particularly in Shopian are facing, a statement issued by the conglomerate said.
The statement said that during the interaction with Geelani, the deputation said that authorities are reluctant to return the dead bodies of youth slain in Tanghdar encounter.
Geelani while expressing his deep concern and anguish termed it a very sensitive issue and a matter of concern for all. “The youth were brutally massacred and buried in mysterious circumstances,” Geelani said. “We feel the pain of separation and the demand is humanitarian. Denying burial (of slain youth) as per religious rites is insensitive and callous.”
Lashing out at “puppet” authorities, Hurriyat chairman said that political detainees are subjected to vengeance and ill treatment. He condemned the slapping of 36th Public Safety Act (PSA) on the incarcerated resistance leader Masarat Alam Bhat terming it the “worst demonstration of political vendetta”.
He also expressed dismay over prolonged and “unlawful” house detention of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and framing of “fake charges” against Syeda Aasiya Andrabi.
