PAMPORE: Municipal Committee and Sub District Hospital Pampore on Tuesday observed the World Environment Day. The programme was organised by Executive Officer and BMO of the town.
It was also observed as plastic free day and a rally was organised on the occasion.
The Executive Officer MC Pampore Manzoor Ahmad while addressing the rally emphasised upon the general masses and municipal employees to be aware of the dangers of plastic on the environment.
He asked employees to aware people about the hazards of polythene and work hard to make the society polythene free.
World Environment Day is celebrated every year with different themes. This year the theme is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ and the host nation is India.
“The aim is to make people strive to change their everyday lifestyle to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution,” BMO Pampore Dr Bilquees Shah told Kashmir Reader.
Also a detailed awareness and practical demonstration was given by sanitary inspector on biomedical waste management. The programme ended with a pledge to reduce plastic burden in the society.
