Srinagar: Clashes between protesting people and government forces erupted on third consecutive day in south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Tuesday against the alleged killing of Lajoora missing youth in Tanghdar sector on May 25.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that clashes erupted in Washbugh Chowk, Dangerpora Chowk and Murran Chowk of the town after shopkeepers started opening their shops.
Government forces fired pellets and resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the stone pelting protesters. Witnesses said that many sustained injuries during the clashes.
They said that situation was very tense in the town as heavy clashes were going on.
Pertinently, people of the town are waiting for the dead body of Sheeraz Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Lajoor who was allegedly killed in a gunfight with forces in Tanghdar sector on May 25 since last three days.
Forces had claimed that they killed five “foreign infiltrators” along the LoC in Tanghdar on May 25 however later two families from south Kashmir, one from Parigam Kulgam and another from Lajoora Pulwma acclaimed that slain include their kin.
Meanwhile, the Markazi Auqaf Committee Lajoora Pulwama today held an emergency meeting and demanded mortal remains of Sheeraz Ahmad Sheikh. The members of the Auquaf threatened to take to streets if government failed to handover the dead body immediately.
