Kupwara: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara said on Monday that police received from the army a “decomposed” body that the army said was of a militant killed in Keran sector of Kupwara district on Sunday afternoon.
SSP Kupwara AS Dinkar said that police received the body from the army on Monday afternoon and a post-mortem was being conducted on it. He also said that the police are not sure if the deceased was a local or a foreign militant.
Army sources told Kashmir Reader that soldiers of the 4/4 GR (Gorkha Rifles) regiment saw some suspicious movement on Sunday afternoon along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector. They said that when soldiers fired some shots towards the suspected spot, the group of militants who had crossed the LoC from the Pakistani side fired back, after which a brief gunfight ensued. The sources said that one heavily armed militant was killed in the gunfight while the others escaped. They said a search was on to nab the other militants of the group.
SSP Kupwara AS Dinkar told Kashmir Reader, “We received from the army the body of the militant who was killed in Keran sector and we are conducting his post-mortem. It is a decomposed body and we can’t say if the deceased is a local or a foreign militant.”
The Indian Army has officially not yet confirmed the killing of a militant in Keran sector and the fresh infiltration by the group of which he was part.
