SRINAGAR: Paying tributes to Mirwaiz Moulana Yousuf Shah on his 51st anniversary, Chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday said that Muhajir-e-Millat was the forerunner of the people’s freedom movement in Jammu and Kashmir.
Hailing his political, social and religious contribution, Geelani in a statement said that Muhajir-e-Millat stood like a rock on his stand. He said though Sheikh Abdullah and other pro-India leaders tried their best to force him to submission, but the late Mirwaiz despite all odds launched movement against autocratic rule of the time and fought in such a way that his name became immortal.
“His greatest gift to his nation is the Tafsir-e-Qur’an. The history of Jammu and Kashmir remembers and will continue to remember Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah,” he said. “Muhajir -e-Millat pursued his mission even in exile. We are highly indebted to his scholarly and religious work of translation of Holy Qur’an in Kashmiri language.”
“The late Moulana had a great contribution in the ongoing liberation struggle,” Hurriyat chairman said adding that Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah’s social, political and religious contribution was exemplary and second to none during his time and he remained steadfast on his mission till his last breath.
Geelani described him as a unique political and religious leader and great political analyst. He expressed hope that the Mirwaiz dynasty will continue its contribution for Islam and freedom movement.
The pro-freedom leader strongly condemned the curfew like restrictions in downtown Srinagar, terming it frustration of authorities.
Meanwhile, on the direction of Syed Ali Geelani, a high level delegation comprising Molvi Bashir Irfani, Hakim Abdul Rashid and Imtiaz Ahmad Shah visited Buchwara Srinagar and extended condolence to the family of slain youth Qaiser Ahmad who was run over by an armoured vehicle.
The delegation expressed deep grief over the unfortunate incident and prayed for the departed soul and forbearance to the grieved family.
Lashing out at rulers in Delhi and their “stooges” in J&K, the delegation said, “It is because of their arrogance that we are facing worst situation and losing precious souls.”
