Clashes follow grenade blast in Shopian

Srinagar: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in south Kashmir’s Shopian Monday soon after a grenade blast injured at least ten persons.
Witnesses said that scores of youth pelted rocks on forces personnel deployed near the local Jamia Masjid who retaliated with tear smoke shelling. The clashes later spread upto Batpora chowk of the town.
Earlier Station House Officer (SHO) Shopian, Gulzar Ahmad and one of his guards were among ten who sustained injuries after suspected militants hurled a grenade on a police party in the town.
The incident happened at Sumo Stand near Batpora road, when a police vehicle was around.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian told Kashmir Reader that they received ten injured including SHO Shopian, a policeman and eight civilians including two ladies.
CMO, Dr Abdul Rasheed further said that one of the ladies had critical injuries.
