SRINAGAR: First time in the history of SKIMS, very high risk complex cardiac surgical procedure was performed by the hospital’s Cardiac Surgical team on an elderly patient hailing from Anantnag, an official statement issued here said.
The patient was suffering from multiple valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, and intractable seizure disorder, the statement said.
The patient was operated upon after proper preoperative optimisation and minimising the high risk state of the health. The patient underwent multiple valve replacement surgery (mitral and aortic valve replacement and tricuspid valve repair) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) simultaneously.
The high risk complex cardiac surgical procedure was performed by a cardiac surgical team comprising dedicated cardiac surgeon Professor Abdul Majeed Dar and Cardiac Anaesthesiologists Professor Amir Zahoor and Dr Talib Khan, Associate Professor Cardiac Anaesthesia and ICU. Postoperatively, the patient was managed as per the standard of care with uneventful course. The patient was discharged in a good state of health and is on follow-up.
Director SKIMS and Ex-officio Secretary, Professor Omer Javaid Shah congratulated the CVTS department and Cardio Thoracic Anaesthesia for performing such complex procedure safely with profession. The director also acknowledged the team of perfusionists and paramedical staff involved during the procedure.
