SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has said that the biggest failure of the BJP-led government at New Delhi is its total mishandling of the Kashmir situation and dealing with Pakistan, which it said is evident from the large number of causalities of soldiers and civilians during the period and “more evident from its u-turns now after four (years) in office”.
Questioning the Modi government’s policy over Kashmir and Pakistan, JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said, “The blow hot and blow cold policy of BJP towards Kashmir and Pakistan had been a total failure, leading to sacrifices of large number of jawans and civilians on borders and in Kashmir Valley during this period.”
“More particularly its u-turns now on its approach towards Kashmir and Pakistan, declaring unilateral ceasefire and willingness for talks when the situation was at its worst because of total failure of the government, vindicates the charge that BJP government was confused and lacked any consistent policy in this regard,” he said.
Sharma said over 374 casualties of soldiers and forces, large number of civilian casualties with more than 3000 ceasefire violations on LoC and borders have broken all past records of the corresponding periods, and the unprecedented sufferings of border people has exposed the BJP’s failures to deal with Pakistan, in any manner and on any front.
He said BJP’s promise of tough policy got exposed adding that the party always maintained that there could be no talks amidst guns and terror but now after four years, Modi government has given up its stand and showed readiness for talks with Pakistan as well as separatists, when on both fronts the situation has been at its worst.
“The borders are blood soaked and Pak has multiplied its open aid and support to terror activities. What changed on ground is change of stand of the Modi government and it should explain to the nation its failures on this front and apologies to the nation for mere exploitation for domestic politics,” he said.
“Modi government’s ceasefire announcement in the wake of objections by the Army and defence ministry and dual role of BJP on the issue, has also exposed lack of coordination at various levels and the opportunist role of his party on sensitive issues,” the spokesperson said. “Modi government took four years to realise the futility of its approach towards Kashmir and lack of any consistent policy and approach to deal Kashmir resulting into worst ever situation.”
