SHOPIAN: Massive fire has engulfed forests in Hirpora division of Shopian district. Eyewitnesses from Dachoo village of the area told Kashmir Reader that around one kilometer of forest is on fire which can be seen kilometers away.
Officials from Forest department said that the fire broke two days ago but was brought under control. They, however, said that fire spread again around 6pm today and has engulfed 5 and 6 compartment of forest division.
Divisional forest officer, Manzoor Ahmad Shah told Kashmir Reader that the area is some eight kilometers from road connection so they can’t use fire service vehicles.
“We are arranging more labour and tomorrow by morning, we will go there,” he said.
He added that the area has large quantity of fallen wood and because of being a wildlife area they are not allowed to clear the fallen wood which becomes cause for fire.
