IED hits army vehicle in Shopian, 3 soldiers injured

SHOPIAN: Three army soldiers were injured on Monday morning when an IED blast hit an army Casper vehicle near Sugan village in Shopian district. Local sources told Kashmir Reader that at about 6am, a huge bang was heard. Police sources said that three soldiers sustained injuries in the blast and there was major damage to the army vehicle. Soon after the incident, a joint team of forces including the bomb disposal squad reached the spot and investigated the area, police said.
The incident took place some 200 meters from Sugan village and about 300 meters from the Chilipora army garrison which was established last year.
Local youths later hit the streets and pelted the army and government forces with stones. Eyewitnesses said that police used tear smoke shells to disperse the stone-throwers.
A police officer told Kashmir Reader that a Casspir (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle) was moving on the Shopian-Litter road when it was hit by the IED, placed by suspected militants near Sugan village.
According to police sources, such an incident of IED explosion has occurred after a long time in any part of Shopian district.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian Shailendra Kumar Mishra told Kashmir Reader that all the soldiers injured in the IED blast were in stable condition.
