TRAL: A complete shutdown was observed on Sunday in Tral area to mark the first death anniversary of Hizb ul-Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat and his associate Faizan Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Tral village.
All shops and business establishments were closed in the town while public transport was off the roads.
Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, who succeeded Burhan Wani as the commander of Hizb, was killed in an encounter in Tral and on the same day Faizan was killed in an encounter at nearby Saimoh village.
A civilian was also killed and several others were injured after government troops fired bullets at the youth who were trying to help the militants escape.
Three residential houses belonging to three brothers, one of them a policeman, were damaged during the gunfight.
Sabzar alias ‘Soab Don’ had joined militant ranks in April 2015 and soon took over the reins of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen after the killing of Burhan Wani in 2016.
