SRINAGAR: Governor N N Vohra on Sunday said security and other arrangements for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra had been completed and the pilgrims should have no cause for any fear or panic.
Vohra said while delivering the annual convocation address at the SCD Government college at Ludhiana, and called upon students to continue efforts for the upliftment of the society with an increased sense of responsibility and integrity.
Obtaining degrees is not an end in itself and students should develop skills and qualities that help in development, he said.
Mere education was not enough, he said adding it was important to understand the responsibilities that fall on the shoulders of the educated.
Vohra said the country cannot progress as per its potential as long as corruption was not fully eradicated.
Vohra, who was a student and a lecturer in this college, remembered his college days in 1950s.
He talked of fellow students, some top players of the college, the college canteen contractor Santa Singh, library and the owner of a local book shop who used to give him costly books free of charge to read and return later.
Vohra said financial constraints cannot stand in the way of quality education.
Later he was honoured with ‘Life Achievement Award’ by the college authorities.
