Kupwara: Army on Sunday said that all the five militants it killed were heavily armed as it recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.
Addressing media persons at Tangdar area of frontier Kupwara district, Commander 104 Brigade of Indian Army Brigadier P K Mishra said that army men posted along the Line of Contril (LoC) saw an infiltrating column coming into snow bound heights of Tangdar sector on the intervening night of May 25 and 26.
“When our troops challenged the militants, they fired, which resulted in a gunfight at two locations,” he said adding that army killed all the militants in a five-hour-long gunfight.
“The group was heavily armed and most of the weapons and other material recovered from their possession was Pakistani made, Mishra said.
The Brigadier said that army is ready to challenge any infiltration and will not allow anyone to cross the LoC and to disturb peace on this side.
Meanwhile, sources said that army handed over the bodies of slain militants to Kupwara police who, with the help of locals, buried them in a nearby graveyard in Tangdar.
