JRL calls for shutdown in district
SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) has called for shutdown on Tuesday, May 29, in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and its surrounding areas on the anniversary of the double murder and rape of Aasiya and Neelofar in 2009.
Remembering the gruesome incident, the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement said, “Aasiya and Neelofar were abducted, gang raped and then mercilessly killed by brutal forces.”
The leadership said instead of taking strict action against those involved in the double rape and murder, the culprits were awarded. “No FIR was lodged and criminals were shielded,” it said.
Demanding impartial investigation by independent body into all the gang rape incidents of Jammu & Kashmir, JRL said that United Nations War Crimes Tribunal “should hold accountable all the army personnel involved in this heart-wrenching incident.”
