Baramulla: Two residential houses were gutted in two different fire incidents in Rafiabad and Uri areas of Baramulla district.
Sources said that fire broke out in the house of Nazir Ahmad Mir son of Rahmtullah Mir of Lariangain village of Rafiabad Baramulla on Saturday evening, resulting in damage to house before the arrival of fire tenders.
Local people of the area appealed authorities to pay compensation to the victim family.
In another fire incident, a double story house of Abdul Rashid Mir of Uranboha village of Uri was gutted in a fire incident during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The fire tender from Baramulla reached the spot and doused the flames.
On Sunday morning SDM Uri Baseer ul Haq Chowdry accompanied by other officials reached the spot and ordered officials to took every step for the help of victim family, Chowdray also provided some goods and food items to victim family on spot and assured them that administration will compensate the family for the construction of new house.
Meanwhile about three dozen huts and 18 paddy grain dumps were gutted in a massive fire in R S Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said on Sunday.
The fire in the Kalali Tiba village broke out last evening and spread rapidly due to strong winds which swept parts of Jammu region, Deputy Director, Fire and Emergency Services, R C Raina told PTI.
Fire tenders from nearby stations were rushed to douse the flame.
Eight fire tenders were on the job and managed to restrict the fire after a night-long operation. Out of 150 kullas (mud houses), 31 were gutted along with 18 paddy grain dumps and a number of cowsheds, Raina, who led the fire-fighting operation, said.
He said five fire tenders were still on the ground as the clearance operation was still continuing.
Raina said the cause of the fire was not known immediately but it is suspected that the fire was caused by a short-circuit.
