Credit result to my father, my inspiration: Sama Shabir
SRINAGAR: The daughter of senior resistance leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, who is imprisoned in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, has topped the CBSE Class 12 results in Jammu & Kashmir state.
Sama Shabir scored 97.8 percent, the highest not only in her humanities stream but in all other streams in the state. The results of the central government board’s exams were announced on Saturday.
“I had not written the exams with the intention that I have to top the result, but that I have to give my 100 percent. Throughout my career I had the same approach towards studies,” Sama told Kashmir Reader.
Sama said her inspiration was her father, who she said has spent 31 years of his life in jail. She said her father is like the Nelson Mendala of Kashmir.
Shah’s latest imprisonment haopened in September last year, in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate of money-laundering.
“My father’s cause, his determination to fight for it, and his being in jail for almost 31 years of his life makes me proud of being his daughter. His struggle is an inspiration for me. I dedicate my exam results to him,” she said.
Sama had scored high marks in the Class 10 Board exams as well. She was among the fifteen highest-scoring students on the state at that time. In her Class 12 exams, she appeared in six subjects: Economics, Political Science, Mass Communication, Sociology, English, and History. Now Sama wants to study law, because she wants to fight against “all the injustice” that she has witnessed in her family and in her society.
Sama said she decided to study law because justice is “beyond boundaries and states”.
“It does not mean that I want to become part of the system. Fighting for justice has nothing to do with it . Justice is a universal concept,” she said.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti congratulated Sama Shabir on her success and said she was truly an inspiration for the youth of the state.
