Police solves grenade cases, claims recovery of explosive material

Srinagar: Srinagar police Saturday claimed that it has solved two grenade blast cases and have arrested one who, as per the police, is involved in both attacks and there were plans going on to lob a grenade after Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid.
Police while investigating case FIR number 59/2018 U/S 307, 427 RPC, 3/4 Exp. Act registered in Police Station Safakadal, rounded up one suspect namely Basit Ahmad Malik S/o Mohammed Ashraf Malik R/o NowporaSafaKadal, a police statement said.
During sustained questioning, the statement said that the suspect disclosed to have lobbed grenades along with another accomplice AdilQayoomNajar S/o Abdul QayoomNajar R/o Gulshan Abad Noorbagh at two different occasions viz one at Chatabal in which case FIR No. 55/2018 U/S 307 RPC, 3/4 Exp. Act was registered in PP Bagiyas and second at Baripora in which Case FIR No. 59/2018 U/S 307, 427 RPC, 3/4 Exp. Act was registered in Police Station Safakadal.
Further upon his disclosure one live grenade was recovered, it said.
“On this information, AdilQayoomNajar was questioned and upon his disclosure explosive materials (Apparently RDX weighing about 1.2 Kgs in the shape of 05 Sticks wrapped in carbon paper and detonators) and other incriminating material was recovered,” statement added.
The police said that the subject further revealed that they were “planning to lob a grenade after Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta.”
