Srinagar: A family has accused the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) of illegally transferring a plot of land allotted to them in Boat Colony.
The family held a protest in Press Enclave on Friday demanding the return of their plot.
Shazada Bano daughter of Muhammad Ismail Nath said they were living in Kut Koul, Guru Bazaar area of Srinagar in 1998 when the state government rehabilitated families from the area at Boat Colony Bemina.
She said her father was a psychiatric patient and was unaware of allotment of plot to them.
“The state government has allotted four marlas of land to my family in 1998 at Boat Colony Bemina.” She said that after 2014 floods they came to know from Flood Control department Srinagar that their family has already been allotted a plot at Boat Colony Bemina. “In November 2017 we applied for RTI application and came to know the list of families which were allotted plots in boat colony,” Shahzada said. “As per RTI data our family was allotted the plot number 214 (LS). This plot was allotted to Mohammad Ismail Nath, who was head of the family, and has been transferred to Mushtaq Ahmad Dar by SDA clandestinely without our consent.”
The family presently lives in Noorbagh with Shahzada’s husband. “From the last 10 years we are moving from department to department,” She added that they also registered their case in the vigilance department in December regarding the fishy affairs of SDA regarding our plot.
Pleading for help in press enclave here, Shahzad said that they are feeling helpless and hopeless.
“No one else is helping us to get back our land. We have visited from department to department to help us. But it is an unfortunate no body is ready to help us”.
The family appealed chief minister to look into the matter. “How it is possible the name of the land owner has been changed,” she questioned.
