Policemen in Wanpoh repel weapon-snatching bid
Kulgam: A grenade was hurled at an army installation in Nehama area of Kulgam district on Friday afternoon. The explosion caused no loss of human life or injuries to anyone.
A weapon-snatching bid was also foiled in Wanpoh area of Kulgam district on Friday.
The grenade attack, as per police, took place at about 2:00 PM. “It exploded within the premises of the army camp, belonging to the 34 RR,” SP Kulgam Harmeet Singh told Kashmir Reader. “A dog was killed in the explosion.”
Following the explosion, the army personnel from the camp ventured out to Nehama village and smashed whatever came their way, the residents of the village alleged.
They said that the army men smashed the windshields and windows of more than a dozen vehicles.
Singh said that the details regarding the explosion and what happened after that were being ascertained.
“A team was sent soon after the explosion. They must have collected all the details,” he said.
Army spokesperson Rajesh Kalia also said the details were being ascertained.
Less than half an hour after the grenade attack, a weapon-snatching bid was foiled by policemen in Wanpoh area. “Two militants were seen approaching the police post at the Wanpoh grid. The alert policemen fired, causing the militants to run away,” a police source told Kashmir Reader.
Clashes were reported during the day in Arwini area of Bijbehara, where some five people were arrested during nocturnal raids on Thursday.
Clashes spread to the railway track area in the village, leading to suspension of rail service on the Srinagar-Banihal track for the day.
There were no reports of any injuries during the clashes. However, some people were arrested when the clashes intensified in the area.
