Srinagar: On International day for Biodiversity-2018, J&K State Forest Research Institute (SFRI) organised a programme at Woodlands House School, here on Tuesday.
In a statement a spokesperson of the SFRI said a function on the international day for biodiversity-2018 with theme – celebrating 25 years of action for biodiversity was organized by member secretary biodiversity board/Director State Forest Research Institute J&K.
The celebrations, included a painting competition on the topic “importance of biodiversity conservation” and a symposium competition on the topic “biodiversity and the survival of mankind.”
The function was attended by Naseer Ahmed Kitchloo, Joint Director SFRI J&K, Ricky Singh, Principal Woodlands House School, Mohammad Lateef Bhat, DFO Research Forest Division, Srinagar, Firdous Ahmed Mir, DFO Seed Development Division, Ishtiyaq Ahmed Tanga DFO Social Forestry Division Srinagar, Nazir Benazir Environmentalist and officers/officials of SFRI J&K, administrative staff of participating schools and the students.
The students from different schools delivered speeches on the biodiversity issues. A detailed lecture on biodiversity conservation was delivered by Nazir Benazir. At the end the chief guest Naseer Kitchloo made elaborate references to the conservation measures being taken by State Biodiversity Board and SFRI J&K.
During the event, the prizes were distributed among the winners of the painting and symposium competitions. The participant schools were honored with mementoes of Appreciation for their activities towards conservation of biodiversity.
