Pulwama: An exchange of gunfire took place between militants and policemen who were guarding a minority community in a Pulwama village on Monday afternoon, after a bid to snatch rifles of the cops was made by the group of militants.
The incident took place in Saidpora village of Arihal in Pulwama district.
“At about 2:15 PM a group of militants fired at policemen guarding a minority community in the area,” a senior police official from the district told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the attack was meant to snatch the rifles of the policemen.
“The alert policemen, however, retaliated with gunfire, making the militants abort the snatching bid,” the official said.
Following the incident, government forces cordoned off the area and searches were carried out to try and nab the attackers.
The militants had, however, fled by then.
