Srinagar: Paying glowing tributes to his late father Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone on their martyrdom anniversary, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday said that the people of Kashmir lost a “charismatic” leader with the assassination of the late Mirwaiz.
Addressing social media followers on Facebook and Twitter, Mirwaiz said that May 21 is not only observed to pay tributes to the two leaders but it helps us recall the massacre that the Indian armed forces perpetrated at Hawal by firing on the mourners who were carrying the body of the slain Mirwaiz.
He said that the assassination of his father was a difficult time for him and his family. “When someone from the family leaves for the eternal world, it is only the family that endures the pain,” he said.
“Today I am on the path of resistance for 28 years. People say that time heals, but my experience is that with time you miss even more the person who left you,” he said.
The Mirwaiz said that “development” was not going to resolve the issue of Kashmir. “We are not laying our lives for development but for the implementation of Right to Self-Determination,” he said.
Hoping that the people will continue their support to the JRL, Mirwaiz said that the JRL is in the process of coming up with a strategy that will get people from all sections of society on board.
Reiterating that people should make resistance a culture, he said, “We have to stand up against the occupation.”
