PAMPORE: Panic gripped Pampore town and adjoining areas after some WhatsApp groups, Facebook accounts and Twitter accounts posted a fake news about 5 CRPF personnel being killed in Pampore town on Monday morning.
Locals told Kashmir Reader that they were astonished to hear about an incident that happened in their area of which they were unaware.
“I received more than 200 phone calls about the incident. After that, I switched off my mobile phone,” said a resident of Pampore town.
The police also booked a Twitter handle in the name of Sushil Pandit, a well-known Kashmiri Pandit propagandist, for “spreading rumours”.
Station House Officer (SHO) Pampore Arshid Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that the case, FIR No 49/2018, under section 505 RPC had been registered at Police Station Pampore against Sushil Pandit for spreading rumours on social media about the killing of CRPF men in Pampore.
He said that a warrant would be issued against Sushil Pandit after verifying the Twitter handle.
“At present we are checking whether the Twitter handle is used by Sushil Pandit or not. If the handle is used by him, a warrant would be issued against him,” he said.
