SRINAGAR: A local court on Thursday heard arguments and listed the bail plea of the police driver – whose armoured vehicle crushed a youth in Srinagar this month- for further orders on May 19 (Saturday).
Eighteen-year-old Adil Ahmad Yadoo was crushed to death by a police armoured vehicle in Noorbagh area of Srinagar during clashes against the killing of three militants in nearby Chattabal.
Though a video of the incident which went viral suggested the running over was a deliberate act, police has booked him under 304A RPC (Causing death be negligence).
The counsel for the killed youth’s family, Bashir Siddiq, opposed the bail plea arguing that the killing was “deliberate” and “intentional”.
“Rejecting the bail will satisfy the collective consciousness of the society and also example for other to do such heinous crime,” Siddiq said.
However, defense counsel, said that the incident was “just an accident that only carries the punishment of five years”.
“The accused is in the jail for last six days. He will abide by all the conditions imposed by this court if granted bail”.
“The accused has been booked under sections 304-A RPC (causing death by negligence). “The vehicle and its driver have been identified. The driver (accused) has been arrested and is in lock-up in police station Safa Kadal,” police told the court.
“After the video of the incidence had gone viral on social networking sites, it was seen that the incident had occurred by a bulletproof police vehicle. The vehicle was identified and driver was arrested,” reads the police report.
Father of the victim, Ghulam Rasool Yadoo told Kashmir Reader that he wants justice for his son.
