SRINAGAR: Scores of people on Monday held a protest against the “government promised jobs” in lieu of land acquisition by Public Health and Engineering (PHE) department.
Scores of protestors assembled here at press enclave and shouted the slogans in favour of their demands. They said that government had promised them jobs instead of compensation at the time of land acquisition for a PHE project.
“They are not fulfilling their promise since 2014. It is grave injustice with us,” they added.
“PHE department acquired one Kanal and 10 malars of my land in 2013 and had promised to provide government job in return. It has been more than five years but I got nothing in return of the land,” Abdul Gani Malik, resident of Dooru verinang area of Anantnag said.
Muhammad Rafiq Bhat, Resident of Qazigund district said that we are people from different district of Kashmir valley, who have given the land for the PHE Before five years ago. The PHE department has promised us. They will provide the jobs to all those land owners, who have given the land to the PHE department. But the government has neglected our demands”.
“I provided one Kanal and one marlas of land to the PHE department before four years, but they duped me,” he added.
“We have also approached the present state government to solve our problem. But it is an unfortunate the government is not provided us any kind of response towards them”.
The protesters said that “If government has no plans to give us jobs we don’t have any option but to ask for return of our land.”
The protestors have threatened to stop the water supply in the state if the government fails to fulfil their demand till 20th May.
The protesters appealed the Chief Minister of the state to intervention into the matter.
