SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chairperson Muhammad Yasin Malik on Monday afternoon held a closed-door meeting with octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani at his Hyderpora office-cum-residence.
Sources in the Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference (G) said that Mirwaiz and Malik came at 3pm and held an hour-long meeting. They said that nobody else was allowed to attend the meeting.
“The duo later informed our office-bearers that the meeting was held on the current situation in the valley,” the sources said. The three leaders joined hands in 2016 to forge unity and came to be known as “Joint Resistance Leadership”. The trio led the “people’s uprising” after the killing of popular Hizb commander Burhan Wani.
The affairs of the JRL have mostly remained private. The JRL does not have any official spokesperson.
Most of the meetings held by the trio have been at Geelani’s residence, as Geelani has been under continuous house detention since 2010.
