SRINAGAR: Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference on Monday appealed to people and resourceful persons of the society to donate for the amalgam for carrying its mission.
In a statement, Hurriyat general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi said Hurriyat Conference has always pursued the noble mission of helping unprivileged and distressed people.
Appealing for donations in the month of Ramadhan, Sumjhi said this is the month of patience, tolerance and sympathy and the Muslims all over the world donate generously in this month for their downtrodden brethren.
“It is the month of charity and it creates a beautiful environment of helping each other,” he said, adding, “Fasting teaches us a noble lesson of feeling the pain of the needy and unprivileged.”
Sumjhi said for the last seven decades, “the nation has presented unparalleled sacrifices and nourished movement with their blood; hundreds are languishing in jails and detention centres and their families are in distress and looking for our help”.
He appealed people to donate generously their Zakaat and Sadaqat so that those “whose earnings have greatly been affected by the current wave of oppression” are helped.
