REASI: National Conference OBC Cell has called for uninterrupted power supply and regulated drinking water across the Jammu region in view of the holy month of Ramzan and the ongoing summer spell.
Expressing concern over frequent and unscheduled power cuts and scarce supply of drinking water, the OBC Cell in a statement issued here said the people were suffering immensely.
“The situation is quite alarming and highly deplorable, as the PDP-BJP government has miserably failed in shouldering responsibilities towards the citizens,” the OBC Cell leaders said at a meeting here, which discussed various issues confronted to the state in general and the OBCs in particular.
The meeting was addressed by the former minister Babu Jagjivan Lal, Co-Chairperson OBC Cell Abdul Gani Teli and District President OBC Cell Reasi Ram Prakash Verma among others.
Babu Jagjivan Lal sought standard quality and adequate quantity of food-grain stock at the PDS sale outlets, saying that the consumers are made to wait for days together for rations, apart from the food-grains being of not standard quality. He demanded adequate stocking on all the depots.
Teli demanded adequate representation to the skilled and unskilled local work-force in jobs to various categories of posts in the railways, being the primary stake-holders. He expressed concern over growing unemployment, saying the coalition government has failed in keeping its promises to youth.
The Co-Chairperson also demanded adequate representation to OBCs in various boards for ensuring empowerment of the weaker sections of society.
District President Ram Prakash listed various issues confronted to OBC communities across the district, which included issuance of category certificates and enhancing the income slab besides extending various welfare schemes to the members of these communities.
The National Conference leader assailed the coalition government for failing on all fronts.
