The workers have been protesting from past three months in several districts in Kashmir.
Holding banners in their hands and raising anti-government slogans, the protesting Anganwadi workers assembled at ICDS office Kangan and tried to march towards Srinagar-Leh, but SDM Kangan Mehraj-Ud-Din Shah reached the spot and tried to pacify the workers. However they continued their protest in the premises of the ICDS office Kangan for hours.
The protesting workers showed strong resentment against the government for not fulfilling their genuine demands which included immediate release of their salaries, enhancementin their monthly honorarium, fixation of final seniority lists, holding of immediate DPC meeting to clear all the pending promotions of the supervisors.
The aggrieved workers and helpers claimed that in June 2016 the authorities had assured them their salary will be enhanced, but no action was taken.
Sabiya Bashir, a protesting worker, said that besides doing the Anganwadi work, they also perform duties of Health Department, Education Department and Social Welfare Department. “But we are never paid for the extra work,” she said. Sabiya said that they will not join their duties till the government respond to their demands.
