Shopian still shut, clashes at two villages

SHOPIAN: The shutdown in Shopian district entered its 51st day this year on Friday, and the 15th consecutive day of shutdown since April 27. All business establishments, shops and schools remained closed in the main town and adjacent villages while thin traffic was plying on roads.
Mobile and broadband internet remained snapped for the 11th day in the district.
Clashes between youths and government forces erupted at two places in the district. Protesting youth pelted stones on forces deployed at Meminder village. The forces retaliated with tear smoke shells and stun grenades. At Vehil village, youth pelted stones on the army’s 44 RR camp at Chowdhrigund. A police party rushed towards the area and then the youths clashed with the police. Police had to fire tear smoke shells and stun grenades to disperse the youth. There were no reports of any injury on either side.
