Srinagar: District Shopian remained shut on Thursday for the 14th consecutive day against the civilian and militant killings of the last two weeks in different forces’ actions in South Kashmir, particularly Shopian. Some parts of Pulwama including the town also is observing shutdown.
Shutdown days in Shopian have reached up to 50 this year, while the Internet remained suspended on Thursday for the 45th day this year.
All shops, business establishments and schools remained closed in Shopian and Pulwama while there was thin attendance at government offices.
Six civilians and five militants were killed on Sunday last in an encounter with government forces at Badigam village of Shopian, and more than 116 were injured, including 18 people shot with bullets during protests.
