Shopian: District Shopian remained shut down on Wednesday for the 13th consecutive day against the civilian and militant killings of the last two weeks in different forces’ actions in South Kashmir, particularly Shopian.
The shutdown call was spontaneous, not given by the resistance leadership.
Shutdown days in Shopian have reached up to 49 this year, while the Internet remained suspended on Wednesday for the 44th day this year.
All shops, business establishments and schools remained closed in Shopian while there was thin attendance at government offices.
Five civilians and an equal number of militants were killed on Sunday in an encounter with government forces at Badigam village of Shopian, and more than 116 were injured, including 18 people shot with bullets during protests. On Tuesday morning, another teenager lost his life at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital in Srinagar after he was shot by forces at Shopian’s Nagbal village.
