Srinagar: Moderate intensity tremors were felt in Kashmir valley this afternoon after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan, forcing people to rush out of their houses in panic.
The tremors which were felt at 1614 hrs lasted in few second. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.
“The intensity of the earthquake, which had its epicentre in Afghanistan-Kazakhstan border, measured 6.2 on the Richter Scale,” a Met department spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, according to the United States Geological Survey or USGS, the earthquake struck near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, at a depth of 111.9 km.
