Srinagar: Five militants including top Hizb commander Saddam Padder and Kashmir University assistant professor Muhammad Raafi have been killed in the Badigam village of Shopian district in southern Kashmir.
Top police officials said that the encounter has concluded while five bodies of militants have been recovered.
The encounter raged in Badigam village after army’s 23 Para Commandos, 34 RR, 3 RR, CRPF, and SOG were cordoned off the area after inputs about the presence of militants.
As the contact with the militants was established, people rushed out of their homes and clashed with forces in a bid to help the militants escape.
During the clashes several youth were injured. “One boy has received bullet while more than a dozen others have suffered pellet injuries,” local sources said..
They said that soon intense clashes erupted in adjoining villages with youth attacking police and paramilitary troopers deployed in their respective towns and villages.
The clashes were going on in at least 5 places when this report was being filed.
