ANANTNAG: A Special Police Officer (SPO) was shot at and grievously injured by suspected militants here on Saturday in Rohmoo village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The SPO, presently posted at District Police Lines Pulwama, has been identified as Showket Ahmad Dar, son of Muhammad Ahsan Dar, a resident of Rohmoo village.
As per police reports, he was intercepted and shot at by militants near the local petrol pump in Rohmoo, at around 9:30 am Saturday morning.
“He was on the way to his place of posting when the militants fired at him. He was shot at multiple times,” a police official said.
Dar was immediately rushed to the Pulwama district hospital and later to the Army’s base hospital in Badami Bagh cantonment area in Srinagar.
“He was in a critical condition when referred to Srinagar,” a doctor at the district hospital said.
Police said in a press release that the condition of the injured policeman continues to be critical.
Meanwhile huge contingents of government forces reached the spot of the shootout and carried out searches in a bid to nab the militants.
The militants by then had managed to flee the spot.
