Professors killing: Jobs & development not a solution to ‘violence & alienation’, says Omar

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference working president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday termed the killing of a Kashmir University professor as “a tragic development in a steady stream of tragedies in Kashmir”.
The tech-savvy Omar further said that the killing is an answer to those who claim jobs & development are the solution to the “violence & alienation” in Kashmir.
Muhammad Raafi Bhat, who taught at the sociology department of the varsity, was killed in a gunfight along four other militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in Shopian today.
Omar tweeted: “Sadly this is also an answer to those who claim jobs & development are the solution to the violence & alienation in Kashmir. This is another tragic development in a steady stream of tragedies in Kashmir,” Omar wrote on Twitter.
Five militants including top Hizb commander and close aide of Burhan Wani, Saddam Padder, were killed in the gunfight at Badigam village of Shopian.
During the gunfight, parents of Bhat were also called to persuade their son to surrender, but he had turned down the offer.
