Srinagar: A gunfight erupted between militants and government forces in Badigam village of Shopian district in southern Kashmir earlier today.
Reports said that government forces comprising of 44 RR, 14 CRPF and SOG cordoned off the Badigam village in the wee hours today after the inputs about the presence of militants there.
They said that the militants fired upon the forces ensuing a gun battle.
Meanwhile as the news about the gunfight reached the neighboring villages, people rushed to the spot and clashed with the forces in a bid to help the militants escape.
Local sources said that during the clashes one civilian has suffered bullet injury in his leg, while one army personnel has also suffered a bullet injury.
They said, besides, many civilians have also suffered pellet injuries.
