SRINAGAR: The situation in Srinagar became tense on Saturday over the death of a man whom the locals alleged was shot dead by security forces, and then a video appeared showing the man being crushed under a government forces vehicle.
The post-mortem report said the man was hit by a speeding vehicle and there was no bullet injury, police said.
“A man, identified as Adil Ahmad Yadoo, was brought to SMHS hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. According to the medical bulletin, he died in a road accident at Noorbagh,” a police spokesman said, adding that the place was nearly four to five km away from the encounter site.
A video later appeared on social media in which a government forces vehicle is seen hitting the man on his back, crushing him under the tyres when he was throwing stones at another police vehicle.
“In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and proceedings have been initiated against the police driver and the vehicle seized,” a police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance and initiated action against a police vehicle involved in hitting and killing of a youth during a demonstration in downtown Srinagar on Saturday, a police spokesperson said.
A youth named Adil Ahmad Yadoo was run over by a bullet-proof“ Rakshak” vehicle of police. Adil was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
“One person identified as Adil Ahmad Yadoo was brought to SMHS hospital whom doctors declared brought dead. Medical bulletin suggests that the person died due to a crush injury in a road traffic accident at Noorbagh,” a tweet of the police spokesperson said.
“Police has taken cognizance of the Noorbagh road accident incident of today. Necessary legal action involving the police vehicle has been initiated,” the spokesperson added.
