‘5 militants of outlawed Hizb neutralized,’ says Police

Shopian: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday issued a statement regarding the Shopian encounter.
The statement is reproduced in the interest of our readers:
“Today SFs including Shopian police and Army, CRPF carried out searches in the Badigam area of Shopian which resulted in an encounter.
The holed up terrorists fired heavily upon the search party. Security forces in their guarded response fired back. Meanwhile police made repeated attempts to make the hiding terrorists to surrender. In the process, family members and nearby community headmen were also roped in vain to surrender them.
During the encounter 5 militants of outlawed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were killed. Their identities are being ascertained.
One Army personnel and one policeman have sustained injuries during the encounter.
Post encounter incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot. The search in the area is going on.
In the said encounter one civilian was injured in the cross firing has succumbed to his injury at hospital.”
